Depending on the rules code, a scoring team may or may not have an enforcement option if the opponent commits a foul during the down. In the MechaniGram, B1 held the receiver before the pass. A1 made the catch and scored despite the foul.
If the game were played under NFHS rules, team A could have the penalty enforced half-the-distance on the try or have the 10-yard penalty applied on the succeeding free kick. The option is available for live-ball fouls other than unsportsmanlike or nonplayer (8-2-2a and b).
Conversely, NCAA rules only offer the option for personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct fouls. All five- and 10-yard penalties are declined by rule (10-2-5a 1 and 2). As a result, in this example play would resume with team A’s try from team B’s three yardline.
